The Cross Country Quotes Page

"Running is the greatest metaphor for life, because you get out of it what you put into it."

The Essence of Running Running is a road to self-awareness and reliance … you can push yourself to extremes and learn the harsh reality of your physical and mental limitations or coast quietly down a solitary path watching the earth spin beneath your feet. But when you are through, exhilarated and exhausted, at least for a moment everything seems right with the world…

“When you put yourself on the line in a race and expose yourself to the unknown, you learn things about yourself that are very exciting.”

“Only one person and one person only will determine how good of a runner you become... You will become as good as you let yourself be. That one person is you.”

"Tell your heart that the fear of suffering is worse than the suffering itself. And that no heart has ever suffered when it goes in search of its dreams."

"A winner is someone who sets their goals, commits themselves to those goals and then pursues their goals with all the ability that is given to them. That requires someone who beleives in themselves, who will make self sacrifices, work hard, and maintain the determination to perform at the best of their ability."

"Dedication and commitment are what transfer dreams into realities."

"A coach is someone who always makes you do what you don't want to do, so you can be who you've always wanted to be."

"There is no glory in practice, but without practice there is no glory."

"Champions are made when no one is watching."

“The long run puts the tiger in the cat.”

“For me, running is a lifestyle and an art. I’m far more interested in the magic of it than the mechanics.”

“Running makes you an athlete in all areas of life…trained in the basics, prepared for whatever comes, ready to fill each hour and deal with the decisive moment.”

“As a sportsman, I accept being beaten. Everybody tries to be a winner, but only one in a race will win. It’s fun to win. But I don’t find unhappiness if I lose.”

“If you want to become the best runner you can be, start now. Don’t spend the rest of your life wondering if you can do it.”

“A lot of people run a race to see who’s the fastest. I run to see who has the most guts.”

"Winning isn't always victory, losing isn't always defeat."

If the miles behind me could be put into words before you… you would feel my efforts, my struggles, my desires, most of all you would see my joy… Watch me from afar run the trails and hills and miles upon miles and you will see…

His Running My Running
Mid-autumn late autumn
At dayfall in leaf-fall
A runner comes running.
How easy his striding
How light his footfall
His bare legs gleaming
Alone he emerges
Emerges and passes
Alone, sufficient
When Autumn was early
Two runners came running
Striding together
Shoulder to shoulder
Pacing each other
A perfect pairing
Out of leaves falling
Over leaves fallen
A runner comes running
Aware of no watcher
His loneness my loneness
His running my running

O.K. Yesterday I went to Becca's brother Mikes Party but I want to write about some stuff that happened yesterday w/ Neil at Mikes Party.

Catlin P., Meghan M, Becca F, and Me were all upstairs in Becca's spair room. We were playing video games and Becca and Meghan were playing a game and I brought up the subject about Halloween and the party when Meghan goes, "How about you call Neil?". I was like SURE!! b/c well I haven't been able to call him b/c I've been busy lately. Well I called him and of all people...Brian Haskell answers the phone. I was like WTF. But right when Brian answered the phone Catlin starts screaming and I'm like telling her to shut up and still trying to hear whats going on w/ the phone. Then Neil gets on the phone and we never really said anything b/c I didn't know what to say. Meanwhile while I'm trying to have a "conversation" w/ Neil about 10 guys run into the room I was in and are like "WHO HAS THE PHONE" and it was soo stupid b/c I'm right infront of them and they can see that I have it and I'm talking on it. So after I yell at them they leave and then Meghan and Becca keep grabbing the phone. At one point I think Neil thought he was talking to me when he was actually talking to Meghan and I think he got pretty pissed off. At this point I just wanted to hang the phone up. But then I tell Neil that I wont be able to go to the McQuaid Dance which I don't think I should of told him b/c now I think he's actually mad at me. I do want to go to the McQuaid Dance but my Mom wont let me. It's not my fault my Mom wont let me but I still feel bad. And then Meghan was like, "Invite him to our dance." Well not to be mean, I dont really want him to come to our dance. I mean every knows how hextic our dances are and how I wont even be able to say 2 words to him b/c the musics so loud. But anyway all of a sudden the music gets really loud from Mikes room. So Meghan goes "MOSH PIT IN THE HALLWAY" I was like screw this Neil I'll talk to you later. So I hang up and I was just sitting there thinking. And then Becca, Catilin, and Meghan go, "Are you even sure Neil still likes you?" and I was like..."I really don't know". So when I was alone in the room I called him back and I asked him, "Do you still like me?" and he's like "Yes". Even tho he said yes...It's just hard to believe it. I don't know why It's just confusing.

I'm to depressed right now to type about Mikes party.
